The most dangerous times in life are when we travel. At home we can be relatively secure within our four walls, fences and security systems, but out on the road, we are all on our own. Car accidents are a huge risk to us all, no matter how good a driver we think we are.
Public transport leaves us vulnerable to anything that might happen in public, and in walking we are sitting ducks for any one with evil intent. Highway bandits, and robbers have always liked to pick on travellers in remote spots.
That’s why I think the prayer Moses offered as Israel journeyed is so amazing. “And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, ‘Arise, O LORD, and let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you.’ And when it rested, he said, ‘Return, O LORD, to the ten thousand thousands of Israel.’” (Numbers 10 v 35 – 36 ESV).
Let us not trust in our own strength, but pray for God’s protection as we move and as we rest. “Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” (Psalm 127 v 1).
Let’s put all our trust in God this week.
